Student Leadership Development Opportunities
At Xingnan, we believe that every student has the potential to be developed as a leader, with each possessing a unique blend of abilities and talents. Guided by this belief, we provide a range of student leadership development opportunities to nurture students towards their fullest leadership potential, enabling them to grow into confident individuals, self-directed learners, and compassionate leaders.
To support this, we offer a three-tier student leadership progression pathway, complemented by role-specific leadership training and meaningful service opportunities. Through these experiences, student leaders are entrusted with responsibilities that allow them to apply their skills, gain valuable experience, and contribute purposefully to the school community.
Switching of Student Leadership Pathways. Student Leaders and Interns are expected to relinquish their current appointments if they wish to pursue a different student leadership pathway, after consulting their parents and teacher-in-charge. These students would then need to progress through the pathway again, starting from Tier 1B.
Peer Support Leaders
Every student plays a role in supporting peers and contributes to the school’s network of positive relationships. Peers are an important source of support, especially for adolescents who often turn to friends before adults.
Students who show a desire to build class community and care for others may develop as Peer Support Leaders (PSLs). PSLs are trained to support classmates, recognise signs of distress, and refer peers to teachers or trusted adults when needed. They also promote positive mindsets, prosocial behaviours online and offline, and model good character.

Class Leaders
The class leadership structure, which includes Class Monitors, Subject Representatives, ICT Representatives, and Group Representatives, strengthens the culture of responsibility, collaboration, and shared ownership within each classroom. Through these roles, students learn to contribute actively to class management, support their classmates in learning, and foster a positive and orderly learning environment. The tenure for these class leadership appointments, excluding Group Representatives, is one year.

Prefects
The prefectorial structure comprises Prefect Interns, Prefects, and the Prefects’ Executive Committee (EXCO), led by the Head and Vice Head Prefects, who exemplify the qualities of a model Xingnanian, in line with the school’s vision of nurturing confident individuals, self-directed learners, and compassionate leaders.
Prefects play a vital role in fostering a positive and disciplined environment and contributing to a caring school culture. As role models, they demonstrate the school values of respect, responsibility, resilience, integrity, and empathy in their daily actions, while supporting school routines and maintaining order during assemblies, recess, and transitions.
Prefects also serve as ambassadors of the school, representing it with confidence and pride during events and visits. They guide and encourage their peers, promote cooperation and kindness, and support teachers in creating a safe and conducive learning environment. Through these responsibilities, prefects develop essential leadership skills such as communication, teamwork, decision-making, and initiative, while actively contributing to the growth and well-being of the entire school community.

Eco Leaders
The Eco leadership structure begins with every student as an Eco Steward, with those inspired to make a greater impact taking on roles as Eco Representatives, Eco Leaders, the Deputy Chief Eco Leader, and the Chief Eco Leader, guiding our school community towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
Eco Leaders serve as role models, demonstrating care, responsibility, and initiative in their daily actions while guiding their peers to adopt environmentally responsible habits. They lead and support green initiatives, champion eco-projects, and advocate for sustainable practices across the school community. Through these responsibilities, Eco Leaders develop essential skills such as environmental literacy, project planning, teamwork, communication, and leadership, while actively contributing to a school culture that values sustainability and stewardship of the environment.
A student leader appointed as Chief Eco Leader will concurrently serve as Vice Head Prefect (Eco) in the Prefects’ Executive Committee, providing specialised leadership and expertise in eco sustainability matters.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Leaders
The CCA leadership structure includes all students participating in co-curricular activities, with leadership roles such as Captain and Vice-Captain in Sports and Games CCAs, and President and Vice-President in Performing Arts and Clubs and Societies CCAs.
CCA leaders are expected to lead by example by modelling commitment, discipline, and school values in all activities. They support teachers and coaches in organising training and events, maintain order and safety, motivate and guide members, and serve as a link between students and teachers. As student leaders of their CCAs, they foster teamwork, inclusion, and a positive CCA culture, while developing key leadership skills such as communication, organisation, decision making, and resilience.

Student Leadership Investiture
All junior and senior student leaders (Tiers 2 and 3) will be formally appointed and recognised during the annual Student Leadership Investiture. This event serves to instil a sense of responsibility and commitment among both incumbent and newly appointed leaders as they take on the important role of guiding and serving their peers. As a visible symbol of their leadership, all junior and senior student leaders will wear a specially designed badge on their school uniform.
With this responsibility, student leaders are expected to carry out their roles with dedication, integrity, and professionalism. They are entrusted to act responsibly, serve as role models, and contribute positively to the school community. Leadership positions are best held by students who demonstrate consistent effort and uphold school values, and those who face challenges in meeting expectations may be guided to step aside, ensuring that leadership roles are fulfilled effectively
